Every mother struggles with fear, and Sherry Surratt not only “gets” that, but has some great insight and tools for how to work through your real mom-fears to be brave! Sherry is not only the CEO at MOPS International, but is also a wife and a mother who has experienced what each and every mom faces. Fear is a very real part of life, but also something that God has given us the tools to face and work through.
In Brave Mom, Sherry not only shares her own experience, but also the top fears that a majority of mothers will face throughout their “Mom Career”. Also included are Sherry’s tips and godly wisdom on how to deal with these fears. Each chapter ends with key questions and action steps to help you process your own circumstances and to progress towards becoming the Brave Mom God has called you to be.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I would really enjoy this book, but I figured it was one of our MOPS theme books for the year, and since I am a part of our MOPS Leadership Team, it would be a profitable use of my reading time, even if just to aid in discussion as we talk about “Be You, Bravely”. I was blown away by the depth and quality of this resource. I say depth, but please don’t be intimidated by that. Sherry writes in a very down-to-earth manner that is easy to connect with and flowing with grace!
This is an invaluable resource for moms! Sherry’s chapter on “Facing Your Emotional Monsters” will save you $$$$ in therapy and counseling if you will just implement the simple steps she has laid out. Maybe still get a good counselor you can confide in, but start doing these things and you will be so much further along as a healthy and balanced Mom-your family needs it! I absolutely loved her section about “Building a Better You”, with top 7 habits that “Better Moms” have made a priority. I’m telling you, GREAT content here for every mom, no matter your age or stage in life!
